National Buddy Check Week

Join the STRONG Veterans Act Initiative: Buddy Check Week – Talk to 10!

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced an exciting new initiative as part of the STRONG Veterans Act of 2022. The inaugural Buddy Check Week is scheduled for October 16 – 20, 2023 and we at Veteran Ratings are calling on all Veterans to join in.

What is Buddy Check Week?

During this week, Veterans are invited to complete peer wellness, resiliency, and VA S.A.V.E. training with a pledge to contact or talk to ten veterans. The primary aim of this initiative is to foster peer networking, increase access to veteran resources, improve mental health, promote suicide prevention, and build connections.
The VA, in partnership with other organizations, will provide training tools, resources, and forums where questions can be asked, and stories can be shared about Veterans connecting with their peers and battle buddies.

How Can You Participate?

Everyone can play a part in this solution. Start by checking in with the Veterans in your life and encourage them to reach out if they need help. Remember, while some of your friends might be doing well, others may require assistance from the community or the VA.

You can share the 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411) phone number, the VA.gov/REACH website, and the VA’s Veteran Crisis Line for people to dial 988.
