Here’s a quick guide explaining how to get started. These steps help us determine if you are qualified for our services. If you are unsure which category you fall into, rating increase or first-time filer, feel free to give us a call.
INCREASE:
If you are looking to increase your VA rating, please send the following.
1. Screenshot of your listed disabilities
Please follow the steps below for the screenshot:
- Go to VA.Gov
- Sign into your account
- Click where it says VA Benefits and Healthcare
- In the dropdown you will see Disability, click it, and then click view all in disability
- Scroll down to Manage your veterans disability – click to view your disability rating
- Take a screenshot
2. Rating Decision Letter (RDL)
A new feature on VA.gov allows you to download Rating Decision Letters directly from the website. We’ve outlined the steps and will keep this document updated as we gather more information.
Please follow the steps below for your RDL:
- Go to VA.Gov
- Sign into your account
- Under the Disability tab, click “Check your claim or appeal status.”
- Below any previous claim, select “View Details.”
- Under the Status tab, select “Get your Claim Letters.”
- All previous rating decision letters are available to download as a PDF.

FIRST TIME FILER:
If you are filing for the first time, please follow the steps below to request DD 214 and Service Treatment Records:
1. Request DD-214 through National Archives
1. Go to https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records
2. Select “Start Request Online”
3. Select “Make New Request”
4. Fill out the eVetRecs Request questionnaire.
- Basic information
- Service and request details
- Report of Separation
- Review and submit
5. Make note of your confirmation number of your request. You’ll be sent a confirmation email with the confirmation number attached.
2. Request Service Treatment Records using Standard Form 180 (SF-180)
1. Go to https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/standard-form-180.html
2. Download and print the SF–180 form
3. Fillout the form
- In Section II select “DD Form 214 or equivalent”
- If you don’t have Service Treatment Records, also select “Medical Records”
4. Use the chart on page 3 to determine where to mail the form based on the branch and dates of service.
